The Hop Press and RateBeer To Make Big Changes

The great thing about writing for an internet based site is the ability to adjust to public opinion quickly. We can take the pulse of our readers and make the necessary changes to remain relevant. After speaking with the writers of the Hop Press and some of the new users to RateBeer, we’re proud to announce a major change to the way things work on both sites.

Over the course of the next month, RateBeer will be changing it’s focus. We’ve heard your calls for change and will be introducing wine ratings to the site.  Additionally, we will be changing the way ratings are accessed, with an emphasis placed on the items with the most ratings. We anticipate wine will eventually surpass beer and give our site’s reader’s what they want.

Fully behind the change, the Hop Press writer’s showed their excitement when I spoke with them. Lisa Morrison, the Wine Goddess explains it thusly, “Wine is better than beer because you are encouraged to not swallow wine when tasting it. Instead, you are persuaded to look and act like a complete Barbarian, spitting someone’s fine-tuned artisan product into a swill bucket. Now that’s classy!”

Classy indeed! Ken Weaver thinks it’s more of an artisan product due to the process of making wine. “Wine is better than beer because no one makes beer with their feet.”

Feet are important. In fact, Sean Nordquist remembers one of the most famous barefoot people and notes their love for wine. “Wine is better than beer because everyone KNOWS Jesus drank wine.  He didn’t sit around swilling beer with his boys, he sipped wine with his apostles, as God intended.”

In the end, it’s best summed up by Joseph Tucker, founder of RateBeer.com. With so much to say, I interviewed him on the topic which can be seen here.

In the coming weeks, look for a new wine-themed logo and new friends here on RateWine and The Grape Crush.

Wine is better than beer because some beers are aged in wine barrels but no wine is aged in beer casks.
